Owely is built to help you understand your course material. It is not built to take your exams. This page explains where the line is, how the product is designed to stay on the right side of it, and what happens if you cross it.

What Owely is for

  • Understanding a question you are stuck on, with the reasoning shown step by step.
  • Turning your own syllabus, notes and readings into a study plan, flashcards and practice.
  • Finding where something is covered in your materials, so you can go and read it.
  • Checking your own work after you have attempted it.
  • Revising for an exam in the days and weeks beforehand.

What Owely is not for

  • Use during an exam, test, or quiz — in person or online.
  • Use during any assessment where outside help is not permitted, including take-home work with a no-assistance rule.
  • Submitting generated text as your own work.
  • Evading a proctoring tool, lockdown browser, or invigilator.
  • Bulk-answering a question bank or automating submissions.

How the product is built to support this

These are design decisions, not promises:

  • Answers show their working. The default output is reasoning and steps, not a bare letter. It is deliberately more useful for learning than for copying.
  • There is no stealth mode. No hidden overlay, no invisible window, no screen-share evasion. We will not build one.
  • Nothing is automatic. Every answer starts with you photographing or typing one question. Nothing is captured or solved on its own.
  • No bulk answering. Rate limits apply to everyone, on every plan.

Your responsibility

Your school’s rules come first, and they are stricter than ours in places. A tool being permitted here does not make it permitted there. If you are unsure whether you may use study software for a particular assessment, ask your instructor before you use it — not after.

You are responsible for what you submit. Work produced with help from this product and handed in as entirely your own may constitute academic misconduct at your institution, with consequences we cannot undo.

Enforcement

Accounts used to cheat on assessments may be suspended or terminated without refund. We respond to credible reports from educational institutions. We do not proactively monitor the content of your uploads.

Reporting misuse

If you are an educator and believe this product is being misused in your course, write to [email protected]. We will respond within five working days, and we can block our tools across your institution’s assessment domains on request.
